GnR played a WILDLY successful show in Brasilia, greeted by a huge, high energy crowd. The crowd sang EVERY WORD to the new songs in unison and the band itself was visibly surprised, especially Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba. From the moment they opened the set with ‘Chinese Democracy’, the crowd jumped and sang every note, for almost 2 hours and 30 minutes. Dj Ashba in particular fed off of the energy: he stagedived THREE TIMES.

In the middle of the concert, a group of 70 people unraveled a giant banner with the band’s new logo painted on it. As the banner took shape, the band tried to play at the same time they stared at it in awe. It was right before Axl’s center walkway and even he could not hide his shock.

People of all ages were there, including MANY people who were not even born when ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’ was released; none of them cared about who ever was in the band before. DJ seemed to be the fan favorite band member (apart from Axl) in this lineup.

Axl looked very thin and in great shape. Another fun fact: as he played ‘The Wall’ at the piano before ‘November Rain’, he changed the lyrics to ‘on and on you’re just..another bitch on my balls’.

Judging by the response the new material and the band are having on the SA tour so far, a reunion seems to be more and more unnecessary.

It was just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 12, and for the last three hours Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose had been knocking back cocktails of vodka, cranberry juice and champagne at hip NYC lounge Greenhouse. Hot off the stage from an electric two-hour gig at the John Varvatos store on the Bowery, Rose still had enough energy to keep the party going with his entourage of 20 or more rockers and hangers-on.

“It’s kind of his thing,” said Greenhouse co-owner Barry Mullineaux of Rose’s early after-partying that morning (Mullineaux later named a rose-colored champagne cocktail “the Axl Rose” in honor of the rocker’s wild morning at his club.). “His shows always run late, and he’s a true rock star so he liked to have after-parties after all of his shows.”

But Rose’s recent high jinks are legendary even where rockers are concerned. For the last three weeks, the singer has been on an epic bender in New York, tearing through the city’s nightclubs and bars like he’s still the stick-thin 25-year-old who became a worldwide phenomenon after the release of his album “Appetite for Destruction.”

MAP OF AXL’S BENDER

Since he arrived in the city for his Fashion Week concert on Feb. 11, he’s gone out nearly every night (and continued on till the morning), usually crashing afterward at his $1,550-a-night suite in the Essex House Hotel. His assault on New York night life has made him a one-man stimulus package during the scene’s winter doldrums — and the city’s nocturnes are thrilled.

“It’s like he’s teaching the next generation how it’s done,” said one source who has joined Rose on at least half a dozen of his jaunts, where Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill has also been spotted. “Who’s a bigger rock star than Axl Rose?”

One of Rose’s guitarists, Richard Fortus, is in the process of getting started on an elaborate back tattoo at Graceland in Brooklyn, which will take some time to complete.

Though Rose, who lives on the West Coast, has been in New York on and off in the last couple years, night-life insiders say he hasn’t hit the town this hard since 2006.

That year, Rose was in town to play a show at the now-defunct club The Plumm — and got into a punch-up with preppy designer Tommy Hilfiger. (Rose moved a drink that belonged to one of Hilfiger’s friends, so Hilfiger hit him in the face. The clothier was shown the door, and Rose later performed “You’re Crazy” — dedicating the song to Hilfiger.)

Now, the rocker, who turned 48 on Feb. 6, is back on the rampage in the Big Apple. Rose asked to play the concert at the Varvatos store — for reasons that are still unclear — and proprietor John Varvatos was happy to oblige. “We thought they were only going to play five or six songs,” Varvatos said of Rose and his band. In fact, he played 17 to a packed room which included Kevin Bacon.

Rose clearly enjoyed the show. Following his appearance at the store, also the former home of CBGB, Rose raved on his Twitter account: “The NY shows were insane!! Love the free form laid back vibe . . . John [Varvatos] was really great! And to keep CBGB’s rockin’?! Badass!! . . . We all had a great time, it was a madhouse!! . . . I LOVE NY!!”

He wasn’t kidding. The next day he made late night stops at 1Oak followed by a mid-morning bash at Essex House.

On Sunday night, Feb. 14, Guns N’ Roses played a late-night gig at Rose Bar to a crowd of 150 that included Mickey Rourke. “Are you as hung-over as I am?” he snarled between GNR hits “Paradise City” and “Welcome to the Jungle.”

Then he went upstairs to a private suite where the party continued from 3 a.m. until 8 a.m.

Two nights later, he hit the Spin Club for pingpong games with none other than Scarlett Johansson. (He later showed up at posh watering hole Avenue, paddle still in hand).

On Thursday, Feb. 18, he crashed three clubs: The Box, SoHo’s Goldbar and SL in the Meatpacking District. At the last venue, he expressed an interest in buying a house in the metropolitan area — possibly in Connecticut, an insider there said. He capped off that night at a private loft in NoHo, where he drank a $1,000 bottle of wine with members of the Black Eyed Peas.

Although he has no wife or children to worry about, the middle-aged rocker has put on at least 15 pounds since his heyday and doesn’t appear to have a strict eating and drinking regimen to keep him in tip-top shape. Dressed in unbuttoned shirts and chunky man jewelry while sporting a wacky biker mustache, he looks more like a Western outlaw than a skinny metal kid.

Rose refused to give an interview for this article, but people who know him say his hard partying is simply a balance to his tough road schedule. “He works hard on the road, so who cares if he wants to blow off some steam when he’s off duty? What’s the fuss? He’s havin’ a good time. God bless him,” said Nur Khan, a Rose Bar bigwig, who set up Rose’s show and after-party there.

As for the late hours Rose plays and performs, says author Ray LeMoine who’s partied with the rocker in the past three weeks, “He’s Axl Rose playing in a small club. When do you want him to go on? I want him playing at 3 a.m. when I’m completely f – - – - d up.”

Another person who’s partied with Rose says he’s working on a new album after last year’s disappointing “Chinese Democracy” — the first Guns N’ Roses studio album in 15 years — and has something to prove.

LeMoine thinks Rose lets the negative press get to him more that he should. “The interesting thing about the guy is that he’ll tell stories and you’ll say, ‘Dude, you’re Axl Rose, you’ve got to not worry about that s – - t,’ “ LeMoine says. “You’ve put out so many great records and you’re the man, but he won’t hear it . . . there’s a nuanced psychological thing about the guy where he’s not trying to be Axl Rose.”

So far, no one knows when the party — or his existential crisis — will end. As Rose prepared to leave one club, The Post cornered him and asked how late he generally stays out. Rose just smirked. “As long as it takes,” he said.

New York Post gossip column, Page Six, reports that Axl Rose and Scarlett Johansson sure are spending a lot of time in the same places. The aging rocker and sultry actress were spotted at an after-hours spot in NoHo a week ago Wednesday, the Box on Thursday, and the Boom Boom Room on Sunday until 3 a.m. On Tuesday of this week, after the curtain of “A View From the Bridge,” Johansson was seen playing pingpong with Rose at SPiN.

“They were laughing the whole time,” says a spy.

“They looked like they were having fun.” The Guns N’ Roses frontman later turned up solo at celebrity haunt Avenue. A different source said, “He swaggered in wearing jeans and an unbuttoned T-shirt, showing off his chest, and wearing lots of bracelets and rings. He had a pingpong paddle in his hand . . . He was in a good mood drinking vodka . . . He even danced on the table for a while.” Johansson’s new husband, Ryan Reynolds, is in New Orleans filming “Green Lantern.”

Axl Rose is back on war against the press and the internet, the man CLEARLY doesn’t care for/like the 140 characters limit on twitter.

Fuck!! The NY shows were insane!! Love the free form laid back vibe n’ both were completely different from r view. The fans were AMAZING!! John (Varvatos) was really great! And to keep CBGB’s rockin’?! Badass!! Goin’ into Rose Bar was rough on some. Lotta best left memories from the old hotel. The gig helped w/some o’ those. Felt really good on stage. (We actually “LIKE” playing together n’ I absolutely agree some things should b a lot less complicated than others made them in the past that’s why we’re together n’ other’s by their own accord ain’t here.) We all had a great time, it was a madhouse!! Thanks to everyone who came out n’ those who helped put ‘em 2gether. Good to have a short break n’ gear up 4 South America. I LOVE NY!!

On another note Guns is now managed by Doc McGhee n’ we’re off to a fun start. Big welcomes! It’s nice to have the support!!

Elsewhere:

Canadian tour n’ Slash banned clothing nonsense: which I addressed live as soon as it happened but hey fake allegations from unreliable sources bein’ negative n’ all especially w/us n’ these issues got more weight to n’ 4 aholes. Fabricated from a 2001 bs RS piece from Rock N’ Rio. Bottom line Never happened, end of story. Fuck TMZ, ContactMusic, Spinner (I got ur attitude.)

Goin’ on late at Rose Bar nonsense: Nope, Nopity, Nope!! 1:30am on time! U got played!! We were asked to do a show for fans n’ friends etc. We were told when to arrive n’ when to play between 1 an 2am which we did exactly. We didn’t perform for the press or their deadlines other than that they were there. We do our best provided we r treated in the same manner to be polite n’ cordial. The past can kiss ur ass, not gonna happen here. Under other circumstances n’ advance arrangements things may have been or be different, w/these shows they weren’t.

Goin’ on “hours” late in Toronto nonsense: Based on set change etc. went on 1 hour 8mins late w/circumstances beyond r control n’ last minute physical injuries from earlier performances (which took that hour to find ways to deal with) n’ could have cancelled the performance not “hrs”. Apologies were made. If u have a problem w/any of that or especially if u weren’t there fuck off.

Not doin’ surprise shows for the hardcore fans nonsense: Sorry some feel that way. Saw a lot at both gigs singin’ every word in every song. We made efforts to get several if not all fans who contacted us n’ were in town into these gigs. We also didn’t know most of the guests as we don’t live here n’ for that matter what makes some internet fan more hardcore than whoever else anyway, oh that’s rt…nothing!! Some just like 2 bitch 2 bitch. So if ur complainin’ n’ u drink beer, today I recommend a Lucky or perhaps a Red Stripe…if ur still peeved…again, fuck off.

I sweat nonsense: On ur mama! Really? That’s what u write about? No shit! I work hard, it’s good for ya n’ I smell better than u!!

Takin’ shots at Slash n’ reunions over Haiti nonsense: Never happened. Wasn’t aware of any comments from the old lineup.

So in closing…Fuck the LA Times, TMZ, Contact Music n’ Spinner. I don’t need “forgiven” for alleged n’ fabricated nonsense. I’ve no respect for mean spirited aholes gettin’ paid talkin’ shit at other’s expense or irresponsible biased partisan politics wanna be journalism by dated hacks. Go on! Back ur boy! But when he says he never killed no one that ain’t exactly true. Yeah, that’s right, stone cold. So if we happen to play your neighborhood or for that matter anywhere at anytime regardless of the circumstances, presales, public sales, give aways, even free shows consider yourself uninvited. It’s a free country but you’re formally n’ publicly not welcome.

Bottom line is we ain’t makin’ efforts to rain on ur parade why piss on or take cheap shots at r’s. Oh that’s rt…how u make ur livin’s all that counts not others, whatever. U ain’t above anyone regardless of who or what corporation u work for n’ unfortunately most of u’ll get to learn that the hard way.

Everyone else…

Thanks for ALL the positive comments, press n’ tearin’ it up w/us!! It was absolutely fucking AMAZING!! Can’t wait to see u out there n’ we absolutely appreciate your support!!

Thanks again 2 everyone involved n’ everyone that was rockin’ out 4 makin’ everything SO fucking great!!

What an experience!!

Peace!!

Axl-

The surreal soirée was GN’R’s second unannounced New York Fashion Week appearance in the past few days. (Thursday they played the John Varvatos store, former site of CBGBs).

Hitting the stage after 1:30AM with ‘You’re Crazy,’ notorious frontman Axl Rose and his new GN’R musicians bedazzled the small, jam-packed room with an hour-and-a-half of classics, as well as newer material from ‘Chinese Democracy.’
Songs like ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,’ ‘Mr. Brownstone,’ ‘Patience,’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ jetted us into a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy, where booze is the fountain of youth, cigarettes are good for you, and sex is the engine of everything. (It was a good place to be for a night.)

“Is this really happening,” slurred an awe-stricken lass who, to get a better view, had stumbled up beside me onto a red velvet platform fashioned from Rose Bar’s elegant billiard table. While the sophisticated crowd was hardly wide-eyed, drunk girl summed up the overall vibe. There we were in a gorgeous space designed by Julian Schnabel, Warhol art on the walls, being entertained by larger-than-life legends sweating bullets just a few feet away, close enough for inappropriate eye contact. Sure, there was some inevitable pushing, shoving and posturing, but overall there were probably more smiles in that one room than most attendees had ever seen in a New York bar.

On stage was the “new” Guns N’ Roses in all its glory, including bassist Tommy Stinson (formerly of the Replacements) and songwriting guitarist DJ Ashba, who has a big top hat to fill and rises to the occasion in terms of both charisma and guitar riffs. (He’s also written and produced for Motley Crue.) Tattooed and shirtless beneath his vest and rocking more eyeliner than Lady Gaga, like the rest of the band, Ashba works the sexy LA glam look to the max, flirting with self-caricature but somehow never quite crossing that line. Yet mustachioed Axl was, of course, the main attraction. Sporting a cowboy hat, shades, and velveteen jacket, he didn’t talk much. He didn’t have to, his melodic caterwaul and snakelike dance moves said it all.

Love him or hate him, Axl is a rock star. So, as we do with all icons, we forgive them their attitudes, bad behavior, and tragic flaws — allegedly banning Slash-related attire at a recent stadium concert in Saskatchewan, hitting the stage hours late in Toronto — as long as they deliver when it counts.

After the final bangs of ‘Paradise City,’ the band disappeared and the crowd fled, heading, probably, to various after-parties and leaving an empty room strewn — literally — with broken glass and rose petals.
